Mars Express, a satellite of the European Space Agency (ESA), has sent new evidence to suggest that the Red Planet, Mars, ocean existed 3 billion years ago. Using your radar, which penetrates beneath the surface of Mars, the satellite has detected sediment layers that resemble the bottom edge of the ocean.
"We see it as layers of sediment, perhaps rich in ice. This is a new, strong indications that there existed an ocean," said Jeremy Mougino the University of California at Irvine.
Scientists have long speculated about the existence of oceans on the Red Planet. It is assumed that there were two oceans, a four-ago, and another three billion years ago.
